Q: How much does a healthcare education cost?
A: That depends on the program and length of program that you choose. There are many financial aid opportunities. If you are thinking about a particular program, we recommend that you talk with your guidance counselor who can put you in touch with a Financial Aid Officer at a college or university.
Q: How long do I need to go to school to become a doctor?
A: You should count on 4 years of undergraduate studies, 4 years of medical school. You then may do a residency program for another 3 years and possibly a fellowship in a particular specialty area.
Q: If I want to be on the flight team or work in the trauma area, how much nurse training do I need?
A: Typically you should count on working 3 years as a nurse in a medical/surgical or critical care area before being considered to work in trauma or on the flight team. These specialty areas require
work experience after Nursing school.
Q: I love working with children but am not sure that nursing is for me. Are there other opportunities?
A: You may want to consider physical therapy or even being a child life specialist. Check out nchealthcareers.com (The North Carolina AHEC healthcareers Web site) for additional healthcare careers.
