PREPARATION
How Do I Prepare for A Career in healthcare?
Talk to someone in a healthcare career (family member, a friend of the family, your pediatrician)
Check out some of the healthcare web sites
Check out the local library. Get a library card and read about your interests.
Talk to your teacher and/or guidance counselor about healthcare careers.
Attend programs and/or workshops in your school and community on healthcare
It is OK to change your mind - keep an open mind and consider all of the options
The amount of money you will make depends on what you decide to do... how long you go to school... and where you want to work after school
Join a community group like the Boy or Girl Scouts... learn how to work as a team and how to get along with others
Begin to help around the house, maybe even discuss getting an allowance with your parents - this will teach you about earning money by working and how to save money
Start taking challenging classes in school
Work on your "organization" skills with your class work - start using a day planner
Volunteer - or if you are too young to volunteer, visit a family member/friend who is in a nursing home or has recently been in the hospital. Volunteer to help them.
